Use of deadly force is OK to protect life and limb. If he was doing nothing but taking your furniture then you were at no risk of life and limb and use of deadly force was not appropriate. If your state law does not clearly state that you can use deadly force to protect property, then you can be charged with assault with a deadly weapon and perhaps intent to kill.
Also, if he identified himself before hand and had legal documents authorizing the repossession then you are really hosed. Even if the state law authorizes lethal force to protect property, he presented documentation to prove that it was not your property.
Deadly force is never legal when used in defense of property. I so hope there’s no internet access in whatever prison you end up in.
